NORC studies the full range of factors that can improve maternal outcomes in the U.S.

An unacceptably high number of women in the U.S. die during or after childbirth every year. The risk for pregnancy-related death varies among different demographic groups, between rural and urban areas, and across communities that are under-resourced.

NORC helps agencies and organizations identify which policies and programs are working to improve maternal health in the U.S. and what can be done to support better outcomes. Among many other projects, NORC designed and is implementing the Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) mixed-methods Maternal Health Portfolio Evaluation, which assesses how HRSA awardees are improving maternal health outcomes in the country.
